Every parent wants their child’s faith to be more than something they inherited. We want it to become something they truly believe, understand, and live out for themselves. Despite this good desire, I have found that parents often neglect the necessity of evangelism, which can stifle their child’s spiritual development.
You have probably heard that the best way to learn something is to teach it. Research shows that when you teach or explain a concept to someone else, your brain organizes the information more clearly, finds your own gaps in understanding, and builds stronger long-term memory. In other words, when children share their faith, they strengthen their understanding of their own faith in the process.
Evangelism Is Not Just for the Experts
Parents tend to neglect evangelism to protect their children from adversity or because they feel their child lacks the understanding and knowledge required. The reality is that there will always be adversity (2 Timothy 3:12) and that nobody starts out as an expert in sharing their faith.
The beauty of Bring Your Bible to School Day is that it gives students a simple, age-appropriate way to take a step of faith. They do not need all the answers; they simply need the courage to be faithful with what they already know.
As they prepare to share, ask questions, and talk about God’s Word, they often become more curious, more engaged, and more committed to learning. The very act of sharing helps strengthen what they believe. That is the protégé effect at work.

Bring Your Bible to School Day goes beyond carrying a Bible onto campus. It’s about helping students live their faith publicly, graciously, and confidently.
As parents, we should view this day not only as an evangelism opportunity, but also as a discipleship opportunity. When we equip our children to share God’s truth, we help them internalize it. When we encourage them to speak about their faith, we help them grow.
The research confirms what many Christian parents have observed for years: one of the best ways to learn is to teach. And one of the best ways for children to develop ownership of their faith is to share it.
