A Front Row Seat at Focus on the Family

“The mountains are majestic!” I whispered in awe to my husband as our rental car snaked its way through the Rocky Mountain canyon. The Colorado River’s rushing current raced beside us. The sun was peeking through the clouds after the rain. Varying shades of deep red layers of wet rock glistened in the sun against the clear blue sky. I was never so aware of my smallness against God’s wondrous and beautiful creation. I relished the feeling of being a part of it — having a front row seat to God’s miracles. And isn’t that what God does? He invites us into His miracles, if we pay attention. And then we can glorify Him.

Having a front row seat to His miracles was the theme of my trip to Colorado Springs. A few months earlier I had the privilege of accepting an interview invitation from the team at Focus on the Family, an incredible international ministry that helps families thrive. What an opportunity! In planning our trip, my husband and I decided to take a few vacation days to explore Colorado and were not disappointed. From the Red Rocks Amphitheater to the Garden of the Gods to the refreshing Glenwood Springs hot springs, we couldn’t escape witnessing the miracles of God.

Later in the week, miracles continued as our car pulled into Focus on the Family’s headquarters. The campus is impressive. Its front door has a view facing Pikes Peak Mountain, with an elevation of 14,115 feet above sea level. It was breathtaking. Dr. James Dobson, an incredibly godly leader who founded Focus on the Family in 1977, knew what he was doing when he built this amazing, influential ministry for Christ.

As I walked through the door, the Focus team made me feel like family with welcoming smiles and kind words. You could feel the Holy Spirit in the atmosphere. The producer of Focus on the Family’s Radio Broadcast with Jim Daly — reaching millions each day with the Gospel — bustled in the door and greeted me enthusiastically. Jim Daly’s assistant sat with me while I waited for the production team to be ready. Soon she escorted me into an impressive professional studio with cameras, microphones, and a soundproof gallery for the audience. It was then that I shook hands with co-host John Fuller and received a warm bear hug from host Jim Daly. Jim is a high-caliber, godly leader that Dr. Dobson chose to seamlessly take over leadership in 2005. I met Jim originally at our Bible2School fundraiser dinner in May of 2024 where he was an engaging keynote speaker. Jim and his wife, Jean, feel connected to Bible2School because they were impacted by released time Bible programs in their early public school years. To say that it was a little daunting to sit at the microphone opposite Jim and John to record an interview is putting it mildly. But something happened when I pulled my seat up to the microphone. In an instant, nerves melted away and God showed me three miracles:

God prepared me.
If you rewind four years, my leadership resume at Bible2School did not include podcast interviews. In fact, it didn’t include much interview experience at all. But through God gently prodding and teaching, I hosted a weekly podcast for parents and my experience grew. Over time, confidence in a new skill was developed. I am thankful that God prepares us for what He wants us to do.

God gave me a compelling message.
God is unequivocally working in public schools through Bible2School. I see it every week along with our Bible2School team across the nation. As I scooted my chair up to the microphone, many stories of how children and their families’ lives have been eternally changed flowed out of me naturally. The positive message seemed to quench the thirst of my interviewers and hopefully their audience. I am thankful that God gives us what we need for what He wants us to do.

God opened up opportunities to amplify the message of Bible2School.
After my interview, I was blessed to meet key leaders at Focus on the Family and brainstorm ways we can work together to further the Gospel. We reviewed parenting resources, video-recorded joint social media posts, and discussed future book and leadership projects. I am thankful God gives us more than what we ask for.

Just like the moment I laid my eyes on the Colorado Rockies for the first time, I realized the majesty of God’s miracles are always in front of us. God is definitely working in public schools through Bible2School and this message not only belonged, but was needed at the Focus on the Family national broadcast table. I am thankful that God prepares, equips, and His blessings overflow all when sitting in and giving Him glory from — our front row seat!

“According to Their Own Kind” Experiment
God has always been consistent in His creation. In fact, the phrase “according to their own kinds” is used 10 times in the first chapter of the Bible. This can be a difficult concept for kids to understand, but we have a hands-on activity that will help them visually understand that living things always come from other living things that are similar to them.
